Those back to school jitters

Welcome back to school!

On the first day of school, it’s totally normal for students to feel a range of emotions… a mix of excitement, nervousness, curiosity and anticipation. Students may feel:

-       EXCITED to reunite with friends, meet new classmates and teachers, and ready to embark on a new academic year!

 -       NERVOUS about making a good impression, meeting new teachers, and adapting to new routines.

 -       CURIOUS about their new class schedule, the subjects they will be studying, the challenges and projects ahead. Curiosity can be a positive motivator for learning and exploration!

-       APPREHENSIVE about the first day of school, especially if they are unsure about the classroom environment, teacher or school expectations, or the academic workload.

-       DISAPPOINTED to transition from a carefree and relaxing summer back to the structured routine of school, to be separated from friends who are in different classes or schools, or to have to wake up early and resume homework, assignments and exams.

-       EAGER to dive into new subjects, learn new skills and engage in extracurricular activities!

-       MIXED EMOTIONS – it’s so normal to feel a combination of all of the above at once.

Whatever you are feeling on the first day of school, it’s a natural part of the back-to-school experience. Acknowledge and embrace your feelings, share your concerns with family and friends, and know that as routines settle in and familiarity grows, you will become more comfortable at school.
